How do I pick my classes?
You will be able to register for classes 
IN THE SHUTTERFEST APP two weeks before the event (first come, first serve). The app is released about a month before ShutterFest. READ THE FAQ and/or monitor the private Facebook group for more details.

Commercial Hybrid Shooting: Photo & Video for Today’s Brands

In today’s market, brands don’t just need photos—they need full content packages. From lifestyle branding campaigns to product imagery and cinematic promos, modern photographers must be able to deliver both stills and motion seamlessly.

This advanced-level, hands-on class will teach you how to assess a company’s media needs and capture it all in one efficient shoot. We’ll move fast, working through branding portraits, lifestyle imagery, product photography, and short-form promotional video to show you how to create a complete content library for small to medium-sized businesses.

What you’ll learn:
How to evaluate and plan for a brand’s content needs
Streamlined workflows for hybrid photo + video production
Lighting with continuous sources (no triggers required)
Lens selection strategies for portraits, products, and lifestyle coverage
How to deliver stills and a polished commercial promo from one shoot

Class format: This session will begin with a live demonstration, then transition into hands-on shooting. Together, we’ll capture both a real product and real subjects—giving you practical experience you can immediately apply to your own client work.

Skill Level:
Advanced — attendees must have a strong grasp of the exposure triangle, lens choice, and lighting fundamentals, and be able to make in-camera adjustments and setting changes quickly on the fly.

In this intermediate-to-advanced, hands-on class, you’ll learn how to shape dramatic light, avoid unflattering angles, and create powerful, mood-driven imagery worthy of the term “bombshell.”

We’ll explore how to use hard shadows, bold color, and constant lighting to craft striking portraits that mix glamour, boudoir, and fashion-forward style. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the decision-making process behind modifier choices and gel applications—so you not only capture stunning images but also understand why the lighting works.

What you’ll learn:
How to avoid unflattering light and shooting angles
Creating drama with hard shadows and bold colors
Using constant lighting for both consistency and mood
Modifier and gel choices for building atmosphere
How to capture glamour/boudoir models with confidence
Class format: This session will be hands-on, giving you the chance to capture glamour and boudoir imagery for your own portfolio while practicing techniques live with models.

This beginner-friendly class takes a no-nonsense look at the gear it really takes to shoot weddings and events successfully. Forget the hype—this session will break down the difference between what you need and what you just want in your kit.

We’ll cover the essentials, from cameras and lenses to lighting and grip gear, while also discussing the pros and cons of first-party vs. third-party gear options. Expect an open, practical conversation designed to help you make smarter buying decisions, pack lighter, and focus on the tools that actually get the job done.

By the end of this class, you’ll know exactly what belongs in your bag when stepping into the fast-paced world of wedding and event photography.

SKILL LEVELS

Beginner: Just starting out or relatively new to a given subject matter. Basics will be covered and the course will move at a slower pace. The instructor will spend a little more time trying to explain concepts to ensure everyone is following. On a scale of 1-10 consider this level a 1-3 on the given topic.

Intermediate: Has a grasp of some basic concepts. This course level will move at a faster pace and assume you have basic knowledge covered on the given subject matter. On a scale of 1-10 consider this level a 4-6 on the given topic.

Advanced: You have working knowledge of the given subject matter, but are looking for more fine-tuning and some advanced topics to take your work to that next level. DO NOT expect instructors to explain basic concepts in this course. On a scale of 1-10 consider this level a 7-10 on the given topic.

Class Types

Hands-On

These are shooting courses. You will be shooting and working. Bring your camera, gear, or whatever you need for the course and to create create images. Expect to have some level of shooting.

Live Demonstration

These are instructor-led courses where you will see a live demonstration of what the instructor is teaching. You can still bring your camera to these courses and you can photograph, but the goal of the course is NOT for you to shoot or to ensure you get a shot. The goal is for you to see how and why the instructor does what he/she does in order to get the final result.

Lecture

These are non-shooting courses. Typically classroom-based, bring your laptop and notepad and focus on learning!
