Light, Camera, Action!

Speaker: Brandon Hunter (Website) (Social Media)

Hands-On

Beginner

New to the game and only shooting outdoors in golden hour, or in open shade? Scared to death when you get that client that insists on portraits indoors without the nice big window to shoot by? Just got your first flash? Let’s shoot some portraits indoors with that one light and use whatever else our location has to work with. Practice shooting and exposing properly for what the scene is giving you. Shake out those nerves and get comfortable creating and stop hesitating. Bring that one light you have, big or small, and let’s work with the tools you have!

Primary Topics: Lighting – Off-Camera, Shootout-Style Styled Shoot

Sweet, Simple and Single – It’s Just Light

Hands-On

Beginner

You get that camera, now what? How do you make that thing dance with a simple one-light setup and get those rich colors before the edit? Scared of off-camera flash but want to offer more than the light and airy white skies? Learn to properly expose to get those deep blue skies or nice textured clouds. Take your time and see how aperture and shutter speed helps you salt to taste and get the look you want. Bring your light as we work outside with whatever the scene gives us. You will need 400 Ws power at a minimum.

Primary Topics: Lighting – Off-Camera

Lecture

Beginner, Intermediate

Shooting and burning, but have no idea how to price your work? In last year’s lecture we just talked about starting out and shaping your business around working full time. More of a coffee talk with a few points, but the biggest realization was not pricing properly. You already have an LLC (or maybe you don’t) and you are running a “business,” without the proper pricing to sustain it. There wasn’t enough time to cover everything before, so we will focus on strictly building and pricing out your work in a basic way that will allow you to invest back into your business without spending the day job money! Just bring your laptop and a list of how you currently charge.

SKILL LEVELS

Beginner: Just starting out or relatively new to a given subject matter. Basics will be covered and the course will move at a slower pace. The instructor will spend a little more time trying to explain concepts to ensure everyone is following. On a scale of 1-10 consider this level a 1-3 on the given topic.

Intermediate: Has a grasp of some basic concepts. This course level will move at a faster pace and assume you have basic knowledge covered on the given subject matter. On a scale of 1-10 consider this level a 4-6 on the given topic.

Advanced: You have working knowledge of the given subject matter, but are looking for more fine-tuning and some advanced topics to take your work to that next level. DO NOT expect instructors to explain basic concepts in this course. On a scale of 1-10 consider this level a 7-10 on the given topic.

These are shooting courses. You will be shooting and working. Bring your camera, gear, or whatever you need for the course and to create create images. Expect to have some level of shooting.

These are non-shooting courses. Typically classroom-based, bring your laptop and notepad and focus on learning!
