OCF 101: Your First Off-Camera Flash Session

Speaker: Amber Henry (Website) (Social Media)

Hands-On

Beginner

Overwhelmed by taking the flash off camera? Let’s simplify it. Amber will cover basic flash setups – what to bring, settings, modifiers, and triggering systems coming soon. Then she will bring it into a hands-on session where you practice lighting simple portraits using one or two speed-lights or small strobes with models and learn the basics of proper exposure. You’ll leave finally feeling confident in using off camera flash for real-world shooting, balancing light for well exposed images, and go home with a new love of light and photography! No more blown out skies or bright orange-skinned clients in your future!

Primary Topics: Lighting – Off-Camera

Rainbow Alchemy: Gels + Prisms for Mood & Magic

Speaker: Amber Henry (Website) (Social Media)

Hands-On

Intermediate

Dive into creative light manipulation using color gels & prisms. Amber – sometimes called “the Queen of Color” – will demonstrate how to layer colored light, project prisms, and control mood through light and color. Then we’ll switch to hands-on practice using props, gels, and prisms to transform ordinary portraits into vibrant, cinematic magic. Perfect for photographers ready to explore bold visual storytelling in immersive classroom settings and learn how color interacts with environment and skin-tones. Bring your camera gear, triggers, gels and lights ( we will also have stations set for you) so that you can get hands on into creating with all the colors of the rainbow!

The Portrait Killer: Bad Light, Awkward Poses

Speaker: Amber Henry (Website) (Social Media)

Hands-On

Beginner, Intermediate

The one stone every photographer trips over – posing the body and lighting it right. With this class Amber will be teaching the synergy between posing and lighting. These are the two core skills every photographer needs to develop to succeed and stand out when capturing people. Amber will guide you into easy to remember, simple light setups (both natural and strobe) combined with posing strategies that visually and emotionally enhance your subjects. No matter what size, shape, or color your clients come in, the need to understand how the body reacts to light and movement is critical to a successful photographer. This class offers shooting time with live models to cement learning and fundamentals. Never pose them awkwardly again!
